Decatur man charged with murder in shooting death on Modaus Road

A Decatur man has turned himself in and has been arrested for murder in the shooting death of another man early Sunday morning.

Decatur Police received a call of a shooting in the 3200 block of Modaus Road, near Thurston Park Road, around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. When officers arrived, they found Wayne Harold Jones, 52, dead at the scene.

Detectives identified Michael Elijah Vasquez, 25 of Decatur, as a suspect, and a warrant for his arrest was made. Vasquez turned himself into police Sunday morning at the Decatur Police Department.

Vasquez is currently being held in the Morgan County Jail on a murder charge in lieu of a $150,000 bond.

Police believe this is an isolated incident.
