Local dentistry gives free services to veterans

A local dentist’s office is making a big difference in the lives of veterans in our area. Flint River Dental in Huntsville hosted its 2nd annual Veteran’s Dental Day.

Flint River Dental invited local vets to come out to get consultations and dental services– at no cost at all. Everything from cleanings, to fillings, and extractions were made available to patients.

The owner of Flint River Dental tells us the staff loves to come out and donate their time to help give a little to those who have already given so much. She adds that there are a number of veterans who do not have health insurance, and Veteran’s Dental Day is especially helpful to those individuals.

Meghan Darby, the Owner and one of the Dentists of Flint River Dental, says, “It’s super important though. Because, for one thing, if you don’t have dental insurance, dentistry is extremely expensive and it’s cost prohibitive for a lot of people. The Veterans Administration is really overwhelmed and a lot of these patients can’t get in there. So, it’s really nice to have a community effort like this to kind of help fill the gap.”

Flint River says they hope, in the years to come, to be able to include oral surgery on the list of services for veterans.
