The U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Huntsville City Schools’ Culinary Arts Academy are partnering together to bring students hands-on cooking training and experience.
Huntsville City School officials, Mayor Tommy Battle, and officials with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center made the announcement in a news conference Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Officials with the school system and Rocket Center say the partnership is a unique opportunity for Huntsville City Schools culinary students to work with and learn from the Rocket Center’s professional catering staff. Students will attend classes in modular buildings placed behind the Davidson Center and adjacent to the Rocket Center’s catering kitchen, where they will interact with Rocket Center staff.
“We have always strived for opportunities for our students to venture outside of the classroom and into the real workforce. But with this program, like the one we celebrate today, our students can actually immerse themselves in the workforce while they explore their own course work,” Superintendent Christie Finley said in a press conference Wednesday.
