House fire entrapment sends one to hospital in serious condition

Huntsville Fire and Rescue responded to an early morning house fire Sunday in the 3500 block of Cable Street for a house fire with possible entrapment.

Around 12:44 a.m., Aug. 11, first responding firefighters reported seeing smoke and bystanders told them someone was inside the house. Firefighters simultaneously gained access through a bedroom window and the front door. Crews found a 60-year-old woman inside and were able to immediately remove her from the home.

The woman was reportedly in serious condition and transported by HEMSI to the hospital. There is no updated word on her condition at this time.

Firefighters re-entered the home and extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes. The house reportedly received heavy fire and smoke damage, but is not believed to be a total loss.

Two people were displaced by the fire. The fire is currently under investigation; updates will be made as they become available.

Huntsville Fire and Rescue also reported one firefighter received a minor injury that was checked out by HEMSI on the scene. The firefighter was able to immediately return to work on the fire.
