TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) — A 19-year-old was shot and killed by an off-duty Lincoln police officer in Talladega Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that 19-year-old Javaon Ousley was killed by an off-duty Lincoln Police officer near a basketball court behind a housing project.

Ousley was about to start his sophomore year at Alabama A&M.

Officials say the victim died from a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m.

“I want answers, I want to know what happened and why is my nephew dead,” says his Uncle Willie Ousley.

The shooting occurred in the Knoxville Homes area, according to Talladega City Council President Dr. Horace Patterson, Sr.

Authorities say the off-duty officer was shot in the arm, but they have not said how the officer was shot. Ousley’s mother says her son went to settle an online sale, but she doesn’t know what happened next.

The shooting comes one week after the community held a peace rally with the police department to improve their relationship.
