Flu season officially begins in October, so doctors say you need to take action now.
Doctors here in Alabama say you should get the flu shot in September since it takes a few weeks to kick in. The age groups at the highest risk of getting a bad case of the flu are infants and those over the age of 65. But if you do get sick – you have new options on how to treat it.
Ralph Sorrell of Ritch’s Pharmacy in Mountain Brook says, “There is a new medication out now called Xofluza, which is a one dose medication rather than a five-day series of medications. It has fewer side effects, it’s much better therapy, and I think we will see a lot more use this year if you do come down with the flu.”
The CDC released some of their findings from the last flu season and they said more than 42 million people had the flu.
