Student artist wins trip to Washington D.C.

Asbury High School senior will have her art displayed in the Capitol

For the first time in seven years, the 4th Congressional District Art Competition Best of Show award went to a student who is not from Guntersville High School.

Emily Ware of Asbury High School in Marshall County was awarded Best of Show for her colored pencil drawing of her grandfather's rod and reel. She didn't have to go far to find inspiration.

Ware says, "I tournament bass fish a lot.  So I was kind of inspired by my passion for that.  My dad and I have been bass fishing since I was really young.  So that’s kind of how I got the idea.”

According to Congressman Robert Aderholt's Office, she beat out 131 other students for the award.

Ware will get a free tip to Washington D.C. this spring, where her art will hang in the Capitol building for a year.
