With the shooting at Walmart this morning and other shootings this year at stores and public places, some people are taking extra steps to stay safe this shopping season.
Shootings are one of the smaller risks, and thefts and robberies are more of a concern.
When shopping, it’s always a good idea to go during the day, but if you do need to go at night, go with a friend or family member.
Park as close as you can to the store you’re shopping at, and park in a well-lighted area.
Marsha Whisenhunt says she takes safety precautions when shopping.
“Being aware of who and what is around me, and I don’t really like to go out after dark either, so there’s definitely a cause to be concerned,” said Whisenhunt.
If you feel uncomfortable, you can also ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving.
