Services, events, and fundraisers are being planned in honor of Nigel Shelby, the Huntsville High School student whose mother says “was sunshine”.
Shelby was allegedly bullied at school for being gay and died by suicide on April 18.
Visitation and memorial service arrangements have been announced for Shelby. Visitation is on Friday, April 26, from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home at 2505 University Drive NW in Huntsville.
His memorial service is on Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 pm at The Rock Worship Center, 3401 Holmes Ave. NW in Huntsville.
Deja Vieux is holding a two-night Voices for Nigel Benefit Gala, with all show proceeds to be donated to Nigel Shelby’s Family. Friday night includes Open Stage performances, both nights feature all-star Drag and other performers from across the southeast.
Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment will light their water tower with rainbow strobe lights in his honor Friday night.
Rocket City Pride is holding an Indoor Charity Bike Ride in honor of Shelby to benefit The Trevor Project, a confidential suidide hotline for LGBTQ youth.
The GoFundMe campaign raising money for his family for funeral and other expenses continues and currently has over $37,000.
