Senate candidate talks education, Space Force in Madison

A congressman running for Senator Doug Jones’ senate seat stopped at Bob Jones High School Monday to talk with students and media.

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R, Alabama District 1) spoke with students about what they liked and disliked about their school system. Byrne says the state must look at adding more advanced placement classes or career tech programs in schools.

Byrne also made his pitch for senate seat and told WZDX News what he knows about the idea of locating the Space Force headquarters in Alabama.

“All of the right assets are here in Huntsville for that command to be here,” Byrne said. “Plus we already have a pretty substantial presence in the military here, so it all makes sense. So we as a delegation need to continue to work together, senate, house, to make sure we advocate as strongly as we can.”

He says he hopes a decision on the location comes soon, but did not give a more specific time frame.
