Security guard puts Mae Jemison student in hospital

News

A Mae Jemison Student is recovering in Huntsville Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, after reportedly sustaining injuries during an altercation with a campus security officer.

Family and friends say on Monday a security guard slammed Steven Franklin on the ground, fracturing his skull. The guard was attempting to break up a fight. Franklin suffered a seizure and was taken to Huntsville Hospital for emergency surgery for a cracked skull and interior bleeding.

Today Huntsville City Schools issued this statement:

“We have learned of an incident involving a contracted campus security officer’s response to an altercation at Jemison High School. That contracted campus security officer is not on campus, and will not return for the rest of this school year. We are actively investigating the details of this incident.”
