Healthy Huntsville is kicking off 2019 with the state’s 13th annual Scale Back Alabama campaign.

Mayor Tommy Battle, along with other local officials announced their support for the weight loss campaign Monday afternoon.

Scale Back Alabama is a free statewide weight loss campaign designed to encourage Alabamians to get healthy and have fun while doing so. Since the first challenge in 2007, Alabamians have lost more than one million pounds.

“You know if you’re healthy you’re more productive at home, more productive at the office. If you’re healthy, you’re just a little more happier. So this is our way of trying to keep people healthy,” said Mayor Battle.

The campaign challenges teams of two to lose at least ten pounds between the end of January and the beginning of April. Teams must register to participate to be eligible for any of the cash prizes. To register a team, go to scalebackalabama.com or download the free app.

The prizes range anywhere between $100-$1,000. Participants are only eligible to win in one category. Winners are chosen through a random draw.

Prizes:

Team prizes (if both team members lose 10 pounds) – Three teams are drawn to win $1,000 per team member; three teams are drawn to win $500 per team member; and three teams are drawn to win $250 per team member.

Individual prizes (if a team member loses 10 pounds, but his or her teammate does not) –  40 individual names are drawn to win $100 each.

Weigh-ins will begin January 21-27 and weigh-ous will be April 1-7.
