Local nonprofits will bring Christmas joy to hundreds of families in North Alabama.
Tuesday, the Salvation Army of Decatur began registration for its Angel Tree program. Low-income families can sign-up for food and Christmas presents for children ages 12 and younger. The Salvation Army of Decatur located on 100 Austinville Road, is accepting applications for Angel Tree through Friday.
“By the time they paid the rent and buy food and pay their bills, there’s just not a lot of money left in the month, and when it comes time to Christmas you want to make sure your kids can get a new outfit or two and possibly get one of the toys,” said Lt. Donna Watts Salvation Army of Decatur.
When you register you need to have a valid picture ID, birth certificates for your children, most recent utility and rent bills and proof of household income.
Sign-ups in Athens will take place next week at the Salvation Army Family Store at 699 East Hobbs Street.
