This year is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing and the Rocket City is gearing up for a big time celebration.
There are events planned for the month of July at the Space and Rocket Center and the Von Braun Symposium kicks off in March. The historian at the Marshall Space Flight Center says the best thing about celebrating the moon landing is sharing the oral history to capture people’s experiences.
“That’s a side of it that we sometimes fail to capture,” said historian Brian Odom. “We think about it from a technology standpoint, it only takes the right technology, the right blend, the right level, and we get to the moon. Well no, there’s human beings involved in every step of this process so capturing their stories is just crucial.”
