Panel discusses Marshall Space Flight Center’s role in the moon landing

Hundreds of people came out to the U.S. Space & Rocket center for the Pass the Torch panel: Apollo 11 – America’s First landing on the Moon event.

The panelists talked about the roles they played in putting man on the moon. Ed Buckbee was among the panelists. Buckbee is a former NASA Public Affairs Officer and U.S. Space & Rocket Center Director. He says one of his favorite memories is seeing the ground testing of the Redstone Rocket for the first time.

“I had never experienced a rocket close up, and I was standing just a few feet away from the Redstone engine, and I saw that and I realized that we in Huntsville, Alabama, we’re rocket people,” said Buckbee.

Doctor Margrit Von Braun also spoke at the event. She talked about her childhood, the moon landing, and the philanthropic work she’s doing today.
