North Alabama psychologist expect to see more autistic children in therapy after new law passes

Local child therapists expect to see more parents of children with autism taking advantage of behavioral counseling.

A new law now requires insurance companies to cover ABA or Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, under their plans. Psychologists said it will make it more affordable for families of children with autism to pay for therapy.

“What the insurance companies would indicate is that there is no cure, so they didn’t want to pay for the rest of this child’s life, to give them the assistance they need,” explained child therapist, Lauren Self.

Psychologists say Alabama is really progressing, as there were not many counseling services for families years ago.
