SOMEWHERE, Planet Earth (KXAN) — It has been 24 years and she has yet to be found, but now a new generation of investigators have their chance to track down the elusive and notorious thief known as Carmen Sandiego.

The original globetrotting computer game “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” debuted in 1985, giving children the chance to learn about the world while tracking down the slippery villainess. It later also became a TV show in the 90s.

Now, Google is re-opening the investigation once more, giving returning fans a nostalgia trip and bringing new players into the chase. The Google Earth app which allows users to get a detailed look at any point on the globe introduced a new mode that reinvents the classic 1985 game.

The game can be found on either the Google Earth desktop site or the smartphone app and is part of a partnership with Google and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the owners of the Carmen Sandiego brand.

The game is part of a marketing campaign to promote the new Carmen Sandiego animated series starring Gina Rodriguez that released on Netflix back in January.

The Google Earth game is scheduled to be just the first in a series of episodes, with the next coming out in May and June.
