Mayor Tommy Battle, Superintendent Dr. Matt Akin, and sponsors for the Mayor’s Book Club visited Morris P-8 on Monday to read and present books to the children.

Each year, the Mayor’s Book Club raises funds to purchase books for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students in the City’s Title 1 schools. Now in its 10th year, Mayor Battle’s Book Club has distributed more than 90,000 books to elementary age students in an effort to promote literacy and a joy of learning.

This year, about 1,220 pre-k and kindergarten students received three books to take home and keep. They included:
1.    Groovy Joe: Ice Cream & Dinosaurs by Eric Litwin, who just made a visit to Huntsville.
2.    National Geographic: Swing Sloth by Neuman, a non-fiction book about rainforest animals and their habitat.
3.    Pete the Cat: Scuba-Cat by James Dean, which is being called a great summer read for kids.

Partners for the 2018 Mayor’s Book Club include: Boeing, Bradley, Corporate Office Properties Trust, Woody Anderson Ford, Cadence Bank, SES, Torch Technologies, Garver, RCP Companies and the Huntsville Public Library.
