The students were awarded with lab coats for completing their first semester in the LABS program (Launching Aspiring Biotechnology Scientists). The program is completely free and teaches students skills they’ll need to be successful in STEM fields.
Many of the students plan to use the knowledge they’re gaining to help them as they start college.
Sarah Mitchell is a senior in high school and participates in the LABS program. She said, “I want to pursue a degree in microbiology or chemical engineering, and I know that’s very lab heavy to get to where I want to be, so I might as well start here and get some lab experience to know what I’m going to be doing when I get to college.”
The students will learn more in-depth skills in their second semester.
