The Red Cross has partnered with Alabama A&M University to install 650 smoke alarms to folks in North Huntsville who don’t have one.
Red Cross has a national initiative called Sound the Alarm, which is being celebrated in Huntsville, Birmingham, and Mobile.
Nearly every year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters, the majority of which are home fires.
“We’re going to be going out into the communities and people who have said they need smoke alarms– we will go ahead and install,” said Khris Anderson, Executive Director for the North Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We will also do canvassing where we go door to door in the neighborhoods prior to April 6th and letting people know that we are coming.”
Smoke alarms will be installed beginning on April 6th. Folks who receive the alarms will also be educated on having an emergency plan in case of a fire.
