WINSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The search for a Birmingham City Schools teacher who has been missing since a boating accident on Independence Day has been called off indefinitely.
“Thanks to all of you for your patience with us as we attempted to bring closure to the Starling family. Obviously this did not have the outcome that we had hoped for. Many organizations and agencies have worked hard over the last 15 days. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Starling family,” said Sgt. Chat Pate with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division.
According to Sgt. Pate, searches will no longer be a daily occurrence, but they will still occur regularly during troopers’ boat patrol. ALEA Aviation will conduct searches periodically, and specialty sonars will be in use next week.
A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money to continue the search. You can find more information on the fundraiser here.
