Huntsville Utilities is warning customers about a new scheme.

The utility company says scammers are now sending customers a text message promising a refund. The text contains a suspicious link which no one should click. Huntsville Utilities says it does not contact customers via text messaging. The company says schemes increase during the holidays, so be vigilant

“Attempting to scam commercial businesses, we saw just a few days ago they were targeting hotels, they often seem to be targeting people who don’t speak English as a first language,” explained Joe Gehrdes spokesperson for Huntsville Utilities.

Huntsville Utilities says if you get a threatening phone call about disconnecting your account—  hang up and call the company back if you have a question about your account.
