The Huntsville Muslim community is reacting to the terror and tragedy in New Zealand.
The Huntsville Islamic Center said they were deeply saddened to learn that terror attacks at two mosques left 49 people dead during Friday prayers in Christchurch. After Friday’s sermon, the Islamic Center held a special prayer for the lives lost in the massacre. Muslim leaders say they’ve received an outpouring of support from the community.
“The overwhelming emotion is sadness. Sadness at the lost of innocent lives. Mothers, sisters, husbands, grandfathers, children,” said Omar Iqbal, Huntsville Islamic Center President.
The Huntsville Islamic Center, located on 1645 Sparkman Dr NW, will be holding a prayer vigil for the victims of the New Zealand massacre. It’s happening on Sunday at 6 pm and is open to everyone.
