Huntsville City Schools gears up for summer feeding program

School’s almost out and that means Huntsville City Schools’ summer feeding program will kick off.

Last year they served over 60,000 meals to children in the school system and just in the community.

Breakfast will be served from 7:00 to 8:00 in the morning and lunch will be served from 11:00 to 1:00 in the afternoon. Workers with the child nutrition program say it’s important to make sure kids have enough to eat so they can focus and grow up healthy.

“They need proper nutrition for cognitive reasoning, for just development in general,” said Donna West. “So we just want to make sure that our students, that the general population of children out there, have the opportunity to get a nutritious meal when otherwise they may not have access to one.”
