Huntsville City Council members are discussing building a new amphitheater.

The proposed amphitheater would cost the City $30 million and it would be built on private land, which the City would also have to purchase. The property is located on University Drive, adjacent to the MidCity development. But some Council members are concerned about the cost and how it will be funded.

“$30 million for an 8,000 seat amphitheater to me does not seem to be a good idea, when we can take Joe Davis Stadium which already has plenty of on-site parking, do some improvements to it and we’re ready to go,” said Bill Kling, City Council member, District 4.

City Council will lay out the proposal in more detail during a work session next Wednesday night.
