Hundreds come out for the Downtown Huntsville Pride Parade

Hundreds of people in Huntsville filled the sidewalks of downtown today for the LGBTQ Pride Parade.

The Grand Marshall of the parade this year was Nigel Shelby’s mother, Camika Shelby. Nigel Shelby died by suicide in April after allegedly being bullied for his sexuality.

Huntsville Councilwoman, Frances Akridge, showed her support by walking in the parade. People who came out say they were happy to see the large amount of support from the Huntsville community.

“It hit hard because I have a wonderful support group at my school. I have good friends and family, but it reminded me that not everyone has that, not everyone has support, and a lot of people have it a lot worse,” said Connor Meyer.

Several other local LGBTQ friendly organizations walked in the parade to show their support.
