On Tuesday HEMSI paramedics gave over 100 toys to children at the Heart of the Valley YMCA at the Downtown YMCA Early Childhood Education Center.
“We’re exposed to a lot of negative, and we try to make an impact on that person’s life in that negative situation, but here we have a positive moment and we relish it.The look in the kids eyes is priceless. The best part is when they jump off the curb and jump up and down and run towards me with their little open arms. I love it,” said HEMSI paramedic John Pigg.
The children stood in a line outside by an ambulance full of presents and one by one rushed up to get their presents from the paramedics.
The HEMSI workers say the look on the kids’ faces made their day and one parent says this day always brings him joy when he sees the look in his daughter’s eyes.
“I think the best part is seeing her smile, we both have been smiling all day,” said Andrew Taylor.
The coordinator of the center says it’s important for the kids to see the paramedics as people who help them.
