Even though it was raining cats and dogs, furloughed employess made their way to pick up free pet food from the Greater Huntsville Humane Society today.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society invited any federal worker going without pay to come pick up food for their pets today.
The pet food being given away is from their pet food pantry which is filled with donations from people in the community.
Shannon Siegel with the Greater Huntsville Humane Society says they are trying to prevent furloughed workers from having to take their animals to shelters.
“They’ve been needing food and just basic items for themselves, but they also have their pets to take care of, and pet food is expensive, you know, so we think that’s something we can provide and do for them,” said Siegel.
They say if the government shutdown continues, they will likely be giving away more pet food.
