Grateful Life Community Church in Huntsville is making sure people in Huntsville have a warm place to stay while the temperatures are below freezing.
They opened up their warming center last night and expect to stay open through Wednesday morning. The center is open to anyone in need. They do allow pets to come and stay as well.
Last night, the church had around thirty people come in and say they have around fifty people staying tonight.
Meals are served three times a day when the warming center is open. The church says they have enough food right now, but they are taking up monetary donations.
Elder Joe Patterson said, “When we have our warming center open for three or four days, our utility bill quadruples for the month, so being the fact that we’re an all volunteer church, our minister doesn’t even make a salary, we could always use help paying the bills.”
The church says they’re also in need of heavy coats in larger sizes and thermal underwear.
