WEDOWEE, Ala. (WIAT) — A 17 year old is recovering at a Georgia hospital after a fatal boat accident killed her father Sunday morning.
Around 9 a.m., two vessels collided on Lake Wedowee near the city of Wedowee, according to state troopers. The father, 53, was driving one boat and the 17-year-old daughther was driving the other.
The two personal watercraft collided killing the father, officials report. The daughter suffered a severe injury to her right leg which was amputated as a result of the incident, officials say. She was medically flown to a hospital in Georgia.
The two family members were from Atlanta, Ga. At this time, officials are not releasing the names of the victims by family request.
There were no other vessels or people involved in this incident. ALEA Marine Patrol troopers are continuing to investigate.
