A Florence man was shot and killed near UNA early Sunday morning around 3 a.m. A university patrol officer heard gunshots near Westmorland and Long Lane.

Neighbors say a party was going on when shots were fired. One neighbor says the gun shots woke him up and he jumped onto the floor.

When officers arrived they found the victim laying in the street. Authorities say he died on the way to the hospital. Another person was shot and a third person was taken in for questioning.

One person WZDX talked to says the shooting stems from a previous incident.

"This is very tragic...anytime there is a loss of life it is a very tragic situation especially when you know the individual, and I just hate it. All my mourning and sympathy goes out to the families of the victims. Taking a life is a very serious thing and there are consequences and I hope one day that we will realize this," he says.

Authorities have not released any names yet.
