The Decatur Police Department will be conducting extra seatbelt enforcement throughout the city from May 21 until June 3.

Officers will ensure the safety of drivers and passengers as they assist in the furthered implementation of the Click It or Ticket campaign. “Seatbelts are crucial to vehicle safety. We use this time to make sure that everyone is as safe as they can possibly be as they travel on our roadways,” says Operations Division Captain Chris Jones.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), seatbelts saved a total of 14,668 lives in 2016 alone. The NHTSA also notes that approximately 27.5 million Americans still elect to not buckle up.
