Cook Museum of Natural Science host job fairs to fill 50 positions

The long-awaited Cook Museum of Natural Science in Decatur is looking to employ fifty more people before its opening day.

“I love natural science and I love teaching children and anyone that is interested in natural science,” said applicant, Marnie Tabor.

Dozens showed up at the Cook Museum of Natural Science tonight, to put in an application, in hopes of becoming part of the team.

“When we open you can expect to be, we say, ‘engage, excite and educate.’ We truly expect to come in and have a hands-on experience, that’s not something you get everywhere,” said Mike Taylor Marketing & PR Manager.

Right now they have hired about 30 people and are looking to fill 50 more positions.

“Hiring for all positions, that includes educations, exhibits, special events, Nature’s Table Cafe, the facilities, guest services, as well as special events and administration,” explained Leonard Morris, General Manager of Nature’s Table Cafe.

The 62,000-square-foot museum will have 11 exhibit galleries, three classrooms, a retail store, and a restaurant.

“Nature’s Table restaurant, which is clean eating and it’s good food that people are starting to become more and more interested in, so we’re providing that for the community,” Taylor said.

The non-profit museum is a spinoff of a previous museum that Cook’s Pest Control Operated for 36 years before closing. Not only is the new museum creating jobs but hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit annually.

“We had market research done and they estimated about 200,000 visitors not including school groups, so we’re expecting this to have a huge impact on the economy here in our local area,” Taylor added.

If you missed Thursday’s job fair, there will be another one on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The museum is scheduled to open its doors on June 7th.
