Convicted sex offender arrested in Decatur


Donald Gene Letson, a convicted sex offender in Decatur, was arrested for violating terms of the SORNA (Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act) Act.

As a convicted adult sex offender, Letson is required to appear in person to notify the Decatur Police Department when he establishes a new residence.

He was released from prison in November 2017 and failed to register with the Decatur Police Department, as required by the SORNA Act*.

Detectives obtained information that Letson was living in an unregistered residence at 145 Starky Road, located in the Decatur Police Jurisdiction. He was picked up on February 27th, charged with one count of a SORNA Violation and transported to the Morgan County Jail, 

Letson stated that he had been living on Starky Road for approximately three weeks.

Decatur Police would like to remind the public that the defendant is accused of the above crimes and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

*NOTE: 15-20a-10. Adult sex offender – Registration with local law enforcement; residence restrictions. Section (B). Immediately upon establishing a new residence, the adult sex offender shall appear in person to register with local law enforcement in each county in which the adult sex offender establishes a residence.
