Boaz Fire and Rescue handing out free smoke detectors

News

Boaz Fire and Rescue is handing out free smoke detectors and installing them.

The fire department got 100 smoke detectors from the Alabama Fire College in Tuscaloosa. They’ve already handed out around 30 of them.

Firefighters say you should replace the batteries in your smoke detector every six months because doing so saves lives.

“A lot of times if they would have had the smoke detectors then it would have alerted them sooner and hopefully would have had a better outcome,” said firefighter Wesley Wilson. “Sometimes they can’t afford it, sometimes they just don’t know that they need to update their smoke detectors.”

If you need a smoke detector call the fire department to request one.
