Athens family displaced following fire, GoFundMe set up


An Athens family’s home was destroyed following a fire on June 5, 2019. A GoFundMe has been set up to help them recover. 

WZDX first reported this story Wednesday, June 5, when an Athens firefighter saved a teen from the house fire.

While no one was hurt in the fire, the Metzger family’s two dogs died. The home and majority of the family’s possessions were lost in the blaze. 

In an effort to help the family recover, a GoFundMe is set up. In just over a day, the GoFundMe has surpassed the $20,000 goal with nearly $27,000 raised as of Friday afternoon.
