Alabama first to have statewide “comfort dog” program

The pressure of having to testify in court can make anyone nervous, especially children.

Alabama’s Office of Prosecution Services announced Monday that they’re adding more specially-trained facility dogs to assist child crime victims.

Alabama becomes the first state in the country to have a statewide program. 12 trained and certified dogs are assisting crime victims around the state right now.

The program is made possible through a $700,000 grant from the Governor’s office.
