$10,000 donated to two local Madison County Schools

 A 12 Days of Christmas Campaign is underway across the Country and a couple of schools from Madison County are benefiting.

Thursday representatives from Dollar General presented a total of $10,000 to New Hope Elementary and High Schools.

A $5,000 check was donated to New Hope Elementary and another $5,000 check was givem to New Hope High.

Laura Prozan, the Library Media Specialist at New Hope Elem. said, “It’s awesome for businesses to support the schools because we never get enough money.”

The donations come a day before school is out for Christmas Break. 

A special present for students and teachers to help support literacy.

“It really is a way to support our mission of serving others,” said Shane Barry, the Regional Director of Dollar General.  

Dollar General sits right in the New Hope community serving as a place where families have easy access from their homes to shop. 

The business has a history will illiteracy, which one of its founders faced. 
 
Their donation is part of the it takes a village concept.

New Hope High Principal Lavell Everett said, “Obviously it’s not something we were expecting. It is a partnership between home, school and community and as we produce young people, young adults to go into the community, it’s important that we have that partnership and build those relationships so we can all work together.”

 At New Hope Elementary every penny counts and helps teachers who often have to use their own funds to help with supplies.

Prozan said, “We never get enough money to do all the things that we need to do for our kids.”

Both New Hope High and Elementary Schools are part of Dollar General’s nationwide efforts to give back to local schools and support literacy in those communities.
