Three-vehicle crash on I-565 kills 2, injures 5 others

Police say the five injured people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have yet to identify the two people killed in the crash.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Two people are dead and five others are injured after a three-vehicle crash at the interchange between Interstate 565 and Highway 72 early Saturday morning, according to the Huntsville Police Department.

Police say the five injured people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have yet to identify the two people killed in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway and police say charges are expected to come on a later date, pending toxicology results.

HPD says investigators belive a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the eastbound lanes of I-565 caused the wreck, initially striking a vehicle and killing one of its passengers. After striking the first vehicle, police say the wrong-way driver hit a second vehicle killing its driver.
