The city of Decatur helps homeowners buy their first home

The city's grant program provides a total of $100,000 in grants for those who apply for extra help.

DECATUR, Ala. — The city of Decatur is helping new homeowners buy their first home by providing a grant to put towards their expenses.

The city's communications specialist Emme Long says this program has been around for several years and wants those to take up this opportunity especially with northern Alabama growing fast.

"We're experiencing so much growth in our region and we are so excited to be able to offer this," said Long.

Decatur's Grant Assistance Program is providing $100,000 in grants and individual homeowners can receive up to $4,500.

"I think that northern Alabama is just growing and booming were seeing people wanting to buy homes and its quite the market right now we would love to have families and young professionals and residents of all ages locate to Decatur so this is just a great way to emphasize that and show that we really want that in our community," said Long.
