Huntsville Tailgate Classic Cornhole Tournament set for August 24th

Local Sports

The inaugural Huntsville Tailgate Classic cornhole tournament brought more than 40 teams and local players to a festival at Butler Green and Campus 805.

The Huntsville Tailgate Classic , presented by American Cornhole Organization, began at 11 am Saturday, August 24th and awarded more than $5,000 to participants.

Players from all over the country, and even some parts of the World attended the event.

“Two, three, four or five years ago, I didn’t see all this cornhole playing and now it’s everywhere you go. I never would’ve thought I’d see on ESPN, people throwing cornhole bags and now you see it all the time with College play. I probably throw 200-500 bags a day,” said Mississippi cornhole player Johnny Box.

American Cornhole Organization, which has been operating events and tournaments for nearly 15 years, is recognized as the top governing body in sports.

The Huntsville Tailgate Classic is a preseason kickoff event to the ACO Tour that begins in September, with more than 23 main events and more than $100,000 in prize money to participants.
