"This one was bought many years ago when we were traveling to the NIH at Christmas. It’s a reminder of our home away from home at the Children’s Inn at National Institutes of Health (NIH) , being joyful no matter the circumstance, and that the holidays are about who you are with ~ NOT where you are or what you have."

"This ornament is about 30 years old. It represents home and the coziness of the holidays! I love it even though the tiny tree has lost the top part!"

This ornament is for my late husband who was a school teacher for 30 years in Orlando. It's just another way to remember and honor him.

"My new favorites this year are my Diet Coke and Twizzlers ornaments. I lost my dad this year after a long battle with cancer. He always had a Diet Coke in his hand, and when none of us knew what to buy him for his birthday at least one of his girls would get him a bag of Twizzlers. It's been a tough year of losses for many people this year. I love seeing some of the things he loved as a reminder of happy times with him."

8 years ago I had a heart transplant. A year or so afterwards I was able to meet my donor’s mom and family. Sherry Bowles and I have been able to become great friends over the years. I found this ornament at a Christmas shop in Gatlinburg earlier this year before all the Covid happened and had two identical personalized ornaments made, one for my tree and one for Miss Sherry’s Tree. The verse on the front is very important to me. “I will honor Christmas in my heart” is uttered by Ebenezer Scrooge after his reclamation in the Dicken’s Classic “A Christmas Carol”. At least once, and often a few times each Christmas season I read the novel and I have most every copy of all the movies. It’s a powerful tale to me in that it speaks of how we all can change. Christmas and New Years are often times for resolutions. Ever since my heart transplant I have resolved to go with the flow and not let life get me down. It’s been very hard to do this lately but I think it’s more important now than ever. Jarred Bowles’ heart beats in me and connects me to my second family every day and gives me hope. I hope you can connect with your family in the coming holidays no matter how hard that may be to do.

When I was living in Idaho, my parents visited me and we went to Jackson, Wyoming for the weekend. It was very special since I don't get to see them a lot! It was actually a work trip because I was doing Olympics coverage of some skiers there, but we made it into a family trip. It was snowy and magical! We went through Grand Teton National Park and we were in the Jackson Town Square for the lighting of the Christmas trees. Santa even came by on a fire truck! My mom loves Christmas and my dad loves the mountains, so it was pretty neat to be there during the Christmas celebrations.

Making ornaments is a way I can turn scraps and things that might get thrown away into something people can enjoy.
