RANA Curbside Recycling program awarded $500,000

Madison County, and the cities of Huntsville and Madison collectively received $500,000 in grant funding from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Half a million dollars is going toward the Recycling Alliance of North Alabama - thanks to a recycling grant.

Madison County, the city of Huntsville and Madison were awarded funds for our curbside recycling program. Madison County and Huntsville received $200,000 each, Madison received $100,000. This means more 95 gallon carts.

The money was awarded by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). Leaders say this grant money is important because although the service is free for residents, the program itself is not.

"Beause there's really no revenue associated with this program. So this is a program that is actually funded, that collects inside 100 percent by the Solid Waste Disposal Authority," says SWDA Executive Director, 'Doc' Holladay,

Last month it was announced that residents could now own two recycling carts. To sign up, click here.
