HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference released it’s 2022-23 baseball schedules, and the Yellowhammer State’s two teams now know their league foes. Most series alternate each weekend home and away. The current dates are subject to change for television broadcasts, as those schedules have yet to be determined by the media partners. Series may be moved from a first game on Friday to Thursday, too, according to the league. All game times will be released later. Non-conference games are to be determined, too.
The SEC Tournament returns to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium for its 25th year from Tuesday May 23 to Sunday 28 and will air on the SEC Network or ESPN2.
The baseball edition of Iron Bowl will be at Sewell-Thomas Stadium from the 21-23 of April. Last year, then-20th ranked Auburn took the two games in the middle of May. The Tigers finished and got the fifth spot in the league ladder. A first-round upset to 12 seed Kentucky forced the Tigers to wait for their fate on Selection Monday. They were awarded the No. 14 national seed and a regional round. They defeated UCLA to win the region and No. 3 national seed Oregon State in the Corvallis Super Regional to advance to the College World Series. In Omaha, the Tigers fell in the first round to Ole Miss 5-1, staved off elimination by beating No. 2 Stanford 6-2, before losing 11-1 to SEC rival Arkansas in the second round of the double elimination event.
Coming off its second College World Series appearance in the last three postseasons, Auburn baseball will host Louisiana Tech and Alabama in a pair of fall exhibitions at Plainsman Park.
Auburn baseball begins fall practice at Plainsman Park Wednesday, Sept. 21. The Tigers have announced a pair of fall ball games, too. Louisiana Tech makes the trip from Ruston on Saturday, October 15 for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch. Auburn and Alabama will play the following week on October 28 at 6:30 p.m. Per Auburn’s release, “both contests will be open to the public” and “additional information will be made available closer to the dates of the games.”
Alabama went 31-27 last year overall and 12-17 in SEC, earning the 11 seed in the SEC Tournament. The Crimson Tide made it to the third round before falling to Florida. In addition to the Iron Bowl exhibition, Alabama will play Mississippi State at home October 21.
