Alabama men’s basketball head coach Avery Johnson announced on Saturday that senior guard/forward Riley Norris will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season with a hip injury.

Norris is scheduled to have surgery Friday morning and is expected to make a full recovery.

Norris originally suffered the injury to his left hip in July. After responding well to rehabilitation and treatment, the Albertville, Ala., native returned to the lineup for the game against UT Arlington on Nov. 21 and has played in all nine games since.

“We are extremely disappointed to lose Riley for the remainder of the season,” Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said. “He’s been fighting through this injury since July and we’ve had success with a conservative treatment and rehab program. However, he’s had increased pain as the season has gone on. Our athletic training staff and medical team discussed all options with him and his family and we felt it was in his best interest to proceed with surgery now.

“Riley is a valuable member of our team and will be greatly missed. However, the hard work and determination that he has displayed throughout his career will also assist him going forward as he rehabs. We are fortunate to have an outstanding medical team that will assist him during this process.”

Norris is Alabama’s most experienced player, having played in 110 games throughout his career while making 57 starts. As the only fourth-year senior on this year’s team, Norris is averaging 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per contest.
