Former Alabama A&M University QB Aqeel Glass is getting another shot at playing professional football as he signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL

NEW ORLEANS — Former Alabama A&M University quarterback Aqeel Glass is getting another shot at playing professional football as he signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League on Tuesday.

The St. Louis, Mo. native finished his AAMU career passing for 12,136 yards, 109 touchdowns, and 41 interceptions in 47 games (41 starts).

For his dynamic play Glass earned several accolades including being named Black College Player of the Year (2x), Deacon Jones Trophy (2x), SWAC Offensive Player of the Year (2x), First-Team All-SWAC (2x), Second-Team All-SWAC (2x), while receiving invites to the HBCU Legacy Bowl and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl after his senior year.

"Im so glad for Aqeel Glass and his family as he has earned the opportunity to play in the USFL," said head football coach, Connell Maynor. "No young man is more deserving of this opportunity than Aqeel. All he needed was this shot to show the football world that he can play at the next level. I'm just so happy for him and his family, Alabama A&M, the SWAC, and for HBCU football, he is going to represent for all of us."

New Breaker general manager Ryan Jones and head coach John DeFilippo will get a solid quarterback to develop in Aqeel Glass.

Glass went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft.  He signed a rookie free-agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but never caught on with the organization.  It's been a quiet few months for Glass after participating in the XFL HBCU Tryouts in Jackson, MS.

Glass earned his first pro shot when he signed with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their 2022 rookie minicamp.

The USFL will kick off their second season on April 15th, 2023.
