According to Football Scoop and other reports, Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is now a significant candidate for the Mississippi State head football coach position.

Sarkisian called plays for Alabama this season after Mike Locksley left for the head-coaching opportunity at Maryland. Sarkisian would be the third offensive coordinator since 2016 to depart Nick Saban’s staff for a head-coaching opportunity should he and the Bulldogs become a match. Lane Kffiin, new Ole Miss head coach, left Saban for FAU in 2016.

“I’m really pleased with the way the new coaching staff has come together,” Saban said in the fall. “We have new leadership on both sides, and those guys have done a really good job of developing relationships with the players. They’re very knowledgable. They’re well-organized, do a good job of leadership, and the coaching staff has fell into place very nicely, as well. I’m really excited about the staff that we have, what they’ve been able to accomplish, the relationships that they’ve made, the development of the players and how the players have responded on both sides of the ball.”
