On Tuesday, a new Mr. football was crowned here in Montgomery. We had a handful of local kids up for the award but in the end it was the Alabama commit Kristian Story who won the award.
I’ve worked so hard to get to this point and just to see all the work come to pass it feels really good.
Kristian Story had quite the storybook season this past year… leading his team to a state title while racking up accolades along the way.
But he says it didn’t come easy for him as he had to overcome a shoulder injury.
At the beginning it was really tough you know I had to throw a certain amount of passes I didn’t really get to go through any summer workouts so that really hurt me you know In my senior season and I didn’t have time to really grow closer with my new teammates.
Regardless of what obstacles story faced this season it’s evident he was able to overcome them. The Alabama signee threw 38 touchdowns.. ran for 19 and was also named the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year.
Now story’s sights are set on playing at Alabama.
I love competition I know I’m gonna get it there so I think that’s the thing I’m looking forward to most.
Story finished his career with over 13-thousand yards of total offense and 175 touchdowns… both AHSAA career records.
Also in Class 1A, Mars Hills Mack Mcluskey was named the 1A lineman of the year beating out guys from sweet water and Pickens county.
McCluskey led Mars Hill to the 1A title game for the second straight year. He finished the season with 55 tackles, including 30 for a loss, and eight sacks.
Mccluskey says this is a dream come true for him.
It was a shock those guys in there they deserve it just as much as I do they are both amazing athletes I’m proud to be here. I just want to thank everybody back at Mars Hill and Florence thank you guys so much for everything you’ve done for me.
