T.J. Finley named Auburn starting quarterback

Junior QB earns spot over Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada and Oregon transfer Robby Ashford.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The wait is over for Auburn fans: they finally know who will start week 1. Tigers head coach Bryan Harsin announced Sunday that T.J. Finley would take the snaps against Mercer on September 3. The football team's twitter account made it public Sunday afternoon.

The junior from Ponchatoula, Louisiana is in his 2nd-year on the Plains, after transferring from Louisiana State. Last year, he appeared in six of Auburn's first 10 games in a backup role before getting the start in week 11 after former starter Bo Nix was injured. Including that week 11 game versus South Carolina, he'd start the Tigers' last three games - all losses - earning season totals of a 51.4 completion percentage on 128 attempts. He threw six touchdowns and just 1 interception.

Finley beat out a pair of recent transfers Zach Calzada from Texas A&M and former Oregon Duck Robby Ashford.
