New COVID-19 rules for school sports this summer

Students can return to the practice fields, but there are some new rules in play.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — There are new rules for public schools when they reopen for summer sports activities.

Every day of summer workouts and practices will start with COVID-19 screening for athletes, coaches and anyone else involved.

Teams will need to split into groups of, at most, 13 people. The guidelines state every group can be at most one coach to every 12 players.

People need to be at least 6 feet apart at all times. If that is not possible, everyone needs to wear a face mask.

Wiping down all equipment in between use is also mandatory.
